I think you're spot on. Initially, when you get caught in the rain, all you can think about is: "oh man, these are nice clothes" or "my iphone is going to get soaked". But after you get past a certain "breaking point" -- perhaps four or five blocks, you're alright with it and actually end up enjoying yourself. And then the people standing under the awnings look like the odd ones out. The message is essentially to be in the present for the present is very beautiful and that the present is all that matters. Walking in the rain and really being there is a wonderful feeling most of us never revisit after childhood. It might rain in Columbus today and if I am lucky, I will not avoid the rain. But, yesterday was the weekend anyway - there were still very few people braving the elements unprotected (but there were a few!) @TGFI - The whole experience is much better in the summer when the weather is good. Doing this in the fall would be extremely unpleasant to say the least! Hmm... filed a complaint with bloglines.
