Handwriting

The digital age has destroyed my handwriting. I used to have a really nice flowing handwriting that was, if not beautiful, at least attractive.

But besides writing meeting notes and class notes by hand, everything else is on a keyboard and has been for years. Since I type much faster than I write, so I usually choose to type if given a choice.

Now, writing thank-you notes, it is quite horrifying to see how my handwriting has devolved.

But there’s something to be said about a handwritten note that is mailed… it feels more personal. Like there was more effort put into it than dashing off an email thank you.

So I am working hard to make mine look pretty.

ah! most will agree, i'm sure. (esp. in the blogging community) :p
the worst was when i realised i was forgetting some of hindi script..like how to write a certain letter, or getting it all wrong. :(

Hi!
I still use my 'china pen' frm school days just because it helps me preserve the writing. Maybe sticking to one particular pen might work :)

@TGFI - I am so with you. But I can't use my typing as the excuse for forgetting my Tamil!

@Priyank - I rediscovered the joy of fountain pens, but it still hasn't rescued my handwriting! But the fabulous fountain pen is fodder for another post :)

In my case, the keyboard is a blessing. My handwriting, though legible, was nowhere near beautiful and my teachers and aunts were forever taunting me on this. The PC/email era arrived and everybody forgot my handwriting ;)

Although I can hardly claim to have beautiful script (distinctive, perhaps) I was concerned a few months back to see how it had deteriorated too.

So, I started writing more by hand in my notebook, trying to scribble something everyday.

I also started writing letters again. I have a few good mates (who I don't see all that much) and rather than email snippets and fragements, we write to each other. It's a good discipline, helps the handwriting and it's so much fun. Letters are so much more satifying to read than emails. ;o)

I donno, but for someone like me who grew up banging a keyboard from 10, I have virtually no handwriting :)

And pleases me to know, that I am not the only one who forgot some of my Tamil letters (happened to me after 2 years of french!) :)
