Weird Yahoo IM guy
I get a fair amount of random in-bound pings on Yahoo IM. I decline all invitations from people I don’t know, but I think they can ping you anyway (I use Adium, so need to go into a Yahoo IM client and change this setting, if it exists).
Anyway, today I got pinged by a random guy. I told him I don’t know him, please go away. He asked me if my dad’s name was “Sridhar” – no, please go away. He asked if I was in 9th standard (grade) – no, please go away. Then he said this was his “sister’s” ID and she had given it to him 6 years ago. Why am I dealing with this? Aargh! It’s because he won’t stop sending me IMs and I keep getting the pings and pop-ups – jeez!!!
Hmm… if his “sister” is now in 9th grade and she gave it to him 6 years ago, that would be when she was in 3rd grade (?!). And, he volunteered that he loves his sister very much and he’s 26 years old. That very odd sequence of information got me a tad freaked out.
My response: “if your “sister” is in 9th standard, you should not be IMing with her. be very careful, please. especially with children.”
He went away. I hope there isn’t some poor unsuspecting 9th grader who he’s trying to reach.
So much tougher and scarier to be a child these days.
Update: I figured out how to change the setting in Adium. Only my contacts in Yahoo IM can IM me now. Yay! Goodbye random weirdos!
